Dr. James Chen received his dental degree (DDS, 1986) in Taiwan. He came to the United States in 1988 to further his dental education and to specialize in the field of orthodontics.

He has been practicing orthodontics in the Bay Area since 1997 and in private practice since 1999. In January 1998, Dr. Chen joined the faculty of UCSF to teach orthodontics to the dental students and the post-graduate students of pediatric dentistry. He is currently appointed as Clinical Professor at UCSF.
In addition to Dr. Chen's love of practicing orthodontics and teaching, he balances a busy and very happy family life with his wife, Alice, and their three daughters, ranging from middle school to college, and the family dog. Classical music, reading, figure skating and fun family activities and vacations are loved and enjoyed by all family members.
